ySense review in France: is it really worth it from Europe?
ySense (ex-ClixSense, rebranded in 2019) is one of the oldest paid-survey and micro-task platforms in the world. But in 2026, how does it actually perform for a French user — given disqualifying surveys, USD currency, PayPal fees and DAC7 obligations? We checked the thresholds, computed the real fees, and compared every point to a French alternative.
How does ySense work?
ySense aggregates four income sources in a single interface: paid surveys (core product), micro-tasks via partners such as Appen or Premise, affiliate offers (downloads, sign-ups, games) and a referral program. Earnings are credited in dollars to a single balance, payable above a minimum threshold.
A tier system (Bronze → Silver → Gold → Platinum) rewards the last 30 days of activity with 5-12% bonuses on surveys. Silver is reached as soon as $2 earned over 30 days and lowers the PayPal payout threshold from $10 to $5.25.
How much can you really earn from France?
The big unknown on ySense is the survey eligibility rate. The "French resident, 25-45" profile unlocks far fewer surveys than US/UK profiles: 7 to 8 attempts out of 10 will tell you "sorry, you don't qualify" after 2-5 minutes of unpaid profiling. Surveys that go through pay between $0.20 and $1.50 for 10-15 minutes.

ySense vs Microtaches.com: head-to-head
ySense's real strengths
- Longevity and payout track record: 18 years of activity (since ClixSense in 2007), no major non-payment incident.
- Global availability: 190+ countries supported, useful when relocating.
- Fast PayPal payouts: credited within 1-5 business days once approved.
- Generous referral program: up to 30% lifetime on your referrals' earnings (plus a $2 bonus on first activity).
- Several income sources in a single interface (surveys, tasks, offers, referrals).
Limitations for a French user
- Disqualifying surveys: ~15% eligibility in France vs ~40% in the US. Lots of wasted time.
- Costly USD → EUR conversion: PayPal applies an unfavourable rate (~3.5% below interbank).
- English-only support: no French team, average response time 2 to 7 days.
- No French entity: no VAT, no compliant invoice, taxation 100% on your shoulders.
- No automatic DAC7 reporting: ySense isn't required to submit the French annual filing. You declare on your own.
- No EUR-native shop: Amazon gift cards are in USD or GBP, not in EUR directly.

Legal and tax framework for a French resident
Earnings from ySense are taxable in France from the very first euro, as non-commercial profits (BNC) to declare on line 5KU/5LU of the 2042-C-PRO form if you're under micro-BNC, or added to your turnover if you're a micro-entrepreneur. See our full guide Declaring micro-task income to the French tax office.
Unlike EU-based platforms (see our DAC7 directive and micro-tasks article), ySense doesn't automatically transmit your data to the French tax authority. That doesn't exempt you from declaring — quite the opposite, the tax office increasingly cross-checks incoming PayPal flows against tax returns.
Frequently asked questions
- Is ySense reliable and does it actually pay?
- Yes. The platform has existed since 2007 (formerly ClixSense) with a solid payout history verified by tens of thousands of TrustPilot reviews (4.1/5). PayPal payout delays are 1-5 business days once the request is approved.
- How much can you really earn on ySense from France?
- Indicative estimate: around $5/month for 15 min/day, $25/month for 1 h/day, $60/month for 3 h/day. Survey eligibility is lower in France (~15%) than in the US/UK, which significantly slows progression.
- Which payout methods are accepted and with what minimums?
- PayPal ($10, or $5.25 at Silver+), Skrill ($10), Payoneer ($50), Amazon gift cards ($25). PayPal payouts are fastest but incur USD → EUR FX fees.
- Is ySense DAC7-compliant?
- Not as it stands. ySense is based in the US, so it isn't required to transmit your annual tax data to the French DGFiP like EU platforms do. That doesn't exempt you from declaring your earnings in France.
- Do you have to declare ySense earnings to the French tax office?
- Yes, from the very first euro. Earnings from foreign platforms are taxable in France for any French tax resident. They are declared as non-professional BNC (line 5KU/5LU) or added to micro-entrepreneur turnover depending on your status.
- Is there a French alternative to ySense?
- Yes. Microtaches.com offers comparable mechanics (paid micro-tasks, gamification, gift-card shop) but with HQ in Paris, French support, fee-free SEPA EUR payouts, clear KYC and automatic DAC7 reporting to the French tax office.
