micro1 review: AI interview, assignments and payment
This micro1 review explains the AI interview and the steps before an offer. A practical assessment of assignments, contracts and payment limits.

This micro1 review addresses a practical question: is an interview with an AI worth your time if you want paid work afterward? The answer depends less on advertised earning potential than on your expertise, the project’s needs and the written terms. Applying, becoming certified, receiving an offer and getting paid are separate events. Understanding those distinctions is more useful than treating a successful interview as a job offer.
Certification, an offer and payment are separate stages: this guide does not predict acceptance or earnings. For a broader introduction, our guide to AI training jobs explains how these opportunities differ from other online activities. Use the distinctions to decide which conditions you need in writing before committing your time.

What is micro1, and who is it for?
micro1 describes a process in which an automated recruiter assesses skills before candidates may be matched with opportunities. Its Introduction guide says recruiters define a role’s requirements around the client’s needs, and Zara tailors the interview to those skills. That is different from an open catalogue of small paid actions. Registering and having a usable skill do not establish that a matching assignment is available.
Do not confuse micro1 with Microtaches. They operate differently: micro1 describes screening experts for projects, whereas Microtaches offers short micro-tasks with instructions displayed in each task. Similar-looking names do not imply equivalent contracts, rates or availability. Someone seeking a specialist engagement should assess the relevant offer; someone exploring a small supplementary activity needs to understand that service’s rules separately. Neither should be assumed to replace the other.
For experts, the official agreement explainer describes an independent-contractor relationship rather than employment. Keep that route separate from any internal company vacancies with their own terms. Read the proposed agreement for the contracting entity’s full legal name and jurisdiction. This review does not infer those details from the trading name, the payment provider or the location of a person advertising an opportunity.
Can you join micro1 from France or another country?
The guide directs applicants to the Opportunities portal, where requirements depend on the role. The cited documentation does not establish a universal list of countries eligible for every assignment. If you live in France, Belgium or elsewhere, inspect the specific vacancy and ask for confirmation when residence restrictions are unclear. Being able to open the website is not evidence that the contracting arrangement, verification process and payment setup will support your location.
Apply the same caution to minimum age: do not import another platform’s rule into micro1. Confirm the permitted age and any role-specific restrictions before submitting sensitive documents. Use your real residence and legal identity. micro1’s Deel instructions specifically require the correct jurisdiction country and the documentation needed for payment. Misrepresenting your location is not a workaround for an eligibility problem and can leave the underlying contract or payout issue unresolved.
Use a straightforward decision checklist: does the opening accept your residence, working language and skills? Can you use the required equipment and receive the proposed payment? A translated webpage does not establish that the interview or assignment is offered in your preferred language. Ask about the assessment language and day-to-day working language if they are unspecified. Those concrete answers matter more than a broad description of work being remote or globally accessible.
How does the micro1 interview with Zara work?
According to the Introduction, Zara asks open-ended questions in real time and candidates respond aloud. The session is recorded so human recruiters can review results and match profiles with roles. The published duration is 20 to 40 minutes, with roughly 7 minutes per skill, checked in November. These are the service’s estimates, not a fixed appointment length or a guarantee that every candidate’s assessment will follow an identical timetable.
The official interview guide lists technical questions, scenario-based prompts, coding challenges for technical roles and a human-data exercise for annotator roles. An open-ended question asks you to explain your thinking rather than select a box. A scenario asks how you would act in a particular situation. Preparing reasoned explanations is therefore more sensible than memorising a supposedly universal answer sheet or expecting exactly the same exercise across roles.
- 1Choose an opening
Compare the stated skill requirements with your actual experience.
- 2Complete Zara
Answer aloud and complete the exercises required for the role.
- 3Complete profile and identity checks
Follow the verification process after meeting certification criteria.
- 4Wait for or seek an opportunity
Being in the talent pool does not guarantee an offer.
- 5Review an offer and onboard
Accept or decline in the portal, then follow the onboarding checklist.
The guide offers a preparation tool and a short demonstration. Use them to become familiar with the format, not to manufacture expertise you do not have. If a practice question is ambiguous, explain the assumptions behind your answer and what additional information you would need. That gives your explanation a clear structure. It is preparation advice, not a claim about the scoring formula or a method guaranteed to secure certification.

How should you prepare without wasting time?
Start with one core skill and an opening that actually requires it. The guide recommends selecting a skill or job type for assessment. Prepare an example of a problem you solved, your approach, the options you rejected and the limits of the outcome. A specific, anonymised example is more useful than a speech packed with terminology. Do not bring confidential material from a previous employer into either your preparation or your interview responses.
Before starting, check your microphone, camera, connection and the permissions requested by the official screen. Choose a quiet place and allow uninterrupted time beyond the interview’s indicative duration. Keep the public role description available for preparation, but obey the assessment’s displayed rules on assistance. An AI interviewer does not imply permission to use an answer-generating tool. If the permitted resources are unclear, clarify them rather than assuming that an unmentioned shortcut is acceptable.
Set a personal time budget as well. You might inspect one role, prepare several examples and make an attempt, then wait for a useful response before investing more. That is not a micro1 requirement; it is a way to avoid endless applications without a clear next step. Our guide to working as an AI trainer helps frame the skills you want to develop beyond any single assessment or platform.
Does certification guarantee paid work?
No. The page What does it mean to be certified? describes entry into a talent pool eligible for opportunities. Invitations may arrive when relevant roles become available, and certified candidates can also apply to suitable openings. That wording establishes neither a start date nor an allocation of hours or income. A certificate confirms a stage in the screening process; a signed offer establishes a different set of commitments.
After meeting the minimum certification criteria, the guide instructs candidates to complete their profile and validate identity. Its dedicated page requires a valid original physical document scanned using the camera: a passport, driving licence or national identity card. It excludes digital IDs and photographs shown on another screen. Follow the verification flow for your particular document instead of spontaneously sending a copy through messaging to someone claiming to arrange a faster approval.
If an application shows “Did not qualify,” the Introduction says you can request detailed feedback from that application in the dashboard and receive it by email. Use the feedback to identify whether there is a concrete area worth improving. Without an offer, keep other applications and income plans active. Certification can expand your options, but it is not a reason to abandon an existing contract search or budget around payments that have not been agreed.

What profiles and assignments does micro1 describe?
The page What type of work is available distinguishes three categories: frontier-model evaluations, real-world robotics data and contextual evaluations for enterprises. An evaluation assesses an output against criteria; a dataset collects examples that can support system development. These categories describe work areas. They do not establish that there is an opening in every field, that each role is remote, or that any particular candidate will be selected.
| Described work | Fit to examine | |
|---|---|---|
| Model evaluation | Specialist reasoning, analysis or review | Demonstrable expertise and quality criteria |
| Real-world robotics | Recording everyday physical tasks | Location, equipment, permissions and project instructions |
| Contextual evaluation | Assessment within business workflows and constraints | Understanding of the business and use case |

Quality matters after admission as well as during screening. The How quality works documentation describes peer review, operations checks and, in some projects, client review. It lists quality scores, time per task and guideline adherence as performance measures. Ask how feedback is delivered and how disagreements are addressed. Submitting work and having it accepted are not interchangeable concepts, even when an interface makes submission feel like the final step.
Ask what the project considers a completed task. A drafted answer, a corrected answer and an approved answer may represent different stages. Clarify expectations about revisions and billable time before starting. Our Outlier, Alignerr and Mercor comparison offers another framework for considering selection-based platforms. It does not make their terms interchangeable with micro1’s: the micro1 offer and agreement remain the relevant documents for a micro1 engagement.
How much can you earn, and how is time counted?
The pages cited here do not establish a universal rate from which to predict your earnings. The Deel documentation distinguishes hourly projects from task-based projects. For hourly engagements, Hubstaff data is used at the end of the cycle; for task-based engagements, payment depends on task completions. This expert-payment process does not describe a points-to-cash system. In particular, Microtaches Ops have no role in calculating a micro1 offer, invoice or expected payout.
The Hubstaff page says that hourly time should be tracked only while actively working on the pipeline and associated tasks. It refers readers to project-specific instructions for what is billable. Do not assume preparation, waiting for guidance, meetings or revisions are paid without confirmation. Ask for a written example of how time is counted if you cannot tell which activities belong on the timesheet and which do not.
To evaluate an offer, distinguish the gross rate, any receiving or currency-conversion charges and your personal obligations. Consider time spent on administration without treating it as invoiced work. That personal calculation may show that an appealing headline rate would not equal your usable return. However, do not fill unknowns with invented fees or exchange rates. Obtain the relevant account breakdown and keep it alongside the offer so you can compare like with like.
How do micro1 payments through Deel work?
The Payroll policy describes two periods: work from the 1st through the 15th is paid around the 20th; work from the 16th through month-end is paid around the following 5th, checked in November. It specifies that funds arrive at payroll.micro1.ai. An approval notification is therefore not proof that money has already reached your own bank account, nor does it establish the timing of an onward withdrawal.
The same policy moves payments to the next business day when the date falls on a weekend or US bank holiday. It also mentions the PST timezone and occasional variations of one or two days. Treat the dates as indicative rather than a promise of credit at the same local time worldwide. For a delay beyond the described schedule, the recommended contact is the pipeline lead; supply the relevant period and supporting records rather than repeatedly changing payout details.
| calendar days | |
|---|---|
| 1st–15th period | ≈ 5 days |
| Second half | ≈ 5 days |
The Deel page explains that Hubstaff hours do not appear automatically in Deel. Data is exported at cycle-end, and the invoice shows the total hours. For onward withdrawal methods, any minimum, currency, fees and arrival time after Deel, inspect your actual account and agreement. The cited pages do not justify publishing a universal receiving-method list or a single threshold that would supposedly apply to every expert in every country.
What data and contractual obligations should you review?
The candidate privacy notice is separate from the marketing website’s policy. It lists professional information and CV details, audio and video recordings, transcripts, assessment scores and proctoring-related information. It also covers screen-sharing recordings for technical assessments. Before an interview, close personal windows and confidential documents that should not appear on screen. Review the candidate notice rather than relying only on a general website privacy link.
The notice permits the use of de-identified interview information to train and improve micro1’s proprietary models. It also states that data, de-identified or otherwise, is not shared with AI model companies for training their models. Summarising this as “your information is never used to train AI” would be inaccurate. If this distinction determines whether you apply, ask about the rights and procedures relevant to your situation before taking part rather than assuming either blanket prohibition or unrestricted external sharing.
The verification guide says a third-party provider handles identity documents and that micro1 does not see or store them; the candidate notice more broadly contemplates collection of identity information when necessary. Read these together and ask who handles each category of data. The agreement also deserves attention: the official explainer covers contractor status, confidentiality and ownership of work product. Clarify unfamiliar clauses before signing, particularly if existing commitments could conflict with the proposed work.
Is micro1 legitimate, and what warning signs matter?
Detailed documentation about interviews, agreements and payroll makes the process assessable. It does not prove that any candidate will receive an offer or that no incident can occur. This review does not present a Trustpilot score or anonymous complaint as established evidence. The documented pressure points are waiting after certification, uncertain project duration, time tracking and the distinction between approval and receipt of money. Those deserve concrete questions rather than an unsupported declaration that every experience is positive or negative.
The official FAQ says pipelines continue while clients have work and that their needs can change. micro1 says it tries to place experts on similar pipelines if one exists when work ends; this is not guaranteed continuity. Keep flexibility in your personal budget. Distinguish not receiving an offer, having a project end and disputing a payment: they are different situations requiring different evidence and questions, even if each feels frustrating.
- Good sign:Find the role through the official portal and verify its requirements.
- Good sign:Read the rate, calculation basis and billable-time rules.
- Good sign:Confirm residence, language, identity and payment reception.
- Good sign:Keep the offer and support details available in the portal.
- Warning sign:Pay an intermediary for a certified account or guaranteed selection.
- Warning sign:Send documents through unfamiliar messaging without verifying the process.
What alternatives should you compare before choosing?
Compare models rather than names alone. Screening for a specialist project, exploring a small occasional activity and applying elsewhere serve different needs. The table below offers further reading and questions, not unverified claims about other platforms’ rates or availability. Our micro-task platform comparison can help you continue the assessment without assuming that a single registration will provide enough work or that all online earning models have the same requirements.
| Reading or option | Decision question | |
|---|---|---|
| Other AI applications | Outlier, Alignerr and Mercor: see the guide linked above | What does the actual offer commit to? |
| Surveys | Guide to legitimate paid surveys | Would this model suit your goal better? |
| Microtaches | Short micro-tasks with displayed instructions | Do the balance and withdrawal rules suit you? |
Comparison of approaches: linked guides support further checks, not guarantees of terms.
For a different approach, read about legitimate paid surveys and their limitations. That route should not be treated as equivalent to an expert contract. Microtaches registration is free and reserved for adults under the rules of their country; the team reviews every account and a profile questionnaire must be completed. Task availability varies by day, country and profile, so this option also comes without any guarantee of income or sufficient daily work.
On Microtaches, an accepted task must be answered within 60 minutes, with no more than three tasks accepted simultaneously. Letting an accepted task expire without an answer incurs a 20-Ops penalty, and some responses are manually checked before Ops are credited. These are Microtaches rules, not micro1 rules. They illustrate why actual operating conditions matter more than the apparent ease of registration when deciding whether a service fits the time you can realistically set aside.
How do Microtaches withdrawals differ from micro1 payroll?
This table concerns Microtaches only, not micro1’s Deel payroll. One Ops is worth €0.0042 for withdrawal and €0.0082 in the shop. The 10,000-Ops reserve plus the 5,000-Ops withdrawal minimum means a 15,000-Ops balance for a first minimum bank withdrawal. Bank transfer requires an IBAN; check that your bank issues one and that the selected provider can receive your funds in your country.
| Type | Availability | Where it is used | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Bank transfer (IBAN) | Bank | Available from the usual minimum | Bank account with an IBAN, in Europe or elsewhere (fixed fee outside Europe) |

Methods shown on the Withdrawals page of your Microtaches account. Countries listed are examples where the service is common.
Identity verification is mandatory before the first Microtaches withdrawal or shop order. A listed method does not guarantee that its provider supports your country or the type of incoming payment involved. Use the Ops calculator and your account’s rules to distinguish the two Ops values when considering an amount. These limits and timelines belong to Microtaches and must never be attributed to micro1 or Deel merely because both services appear in this comparison.
micro1 review verdict: who should consider the process?
A measured attempt can make sense if you have an identifiable skill, a matching opening and time to prepare reasoned answers. The process is less suitable if your only goal is immediate cash or an activity without screening. Before accepting, make sure you understand what to deliver, what triggers payment, when payment is expected and who can resolve a problem. Ask for missing answers before working, rather than hoping that unclear terms will become favourable afterward.
Assess micro1 offer by offer. Certification does not replace a contract, and a payroll schedule does not guarantee a volume of work.
- Documented interview and certification stages.
- Official distinction between hourly and task-based payment.
- Published payroll schedule and support route.
- No assignment guaranteed after certification.
- Project duration depends on client needs.
- Country, rate and final payment reception need offer-specific checks.
- Is micro1 the same as Microtaches?
- No. micro1 describes expert screening, interviews, certification and potential opportunities. Microtaches separately offers short micro-tasks with instructions displayed in each task. Their contracts, balances and payment processes are not interchangeable. Ops, the reserve and Microtaches withdrawal rules do not describe micro1 expert pay. Always check which service and document a condition belongs to before using it to estimate your available money or decide whether to register.
- How long is the Zara interview?
- micro1’s Introduction page gives a duration of 20 to 40 minutes depending on the skills assessed, checked in November. It estimates roughly 7 minutes for one skill. These are indicative figures, not an identical commitment for every candidate. Allow additional time for checking equipment and reading instructions. Do not assume that those preparatory steps are paid or included within a guaranteed assessment duration.
- Does micro1 certification ensure work?
- No. The certification page describes a talent pool eligible for opportunities. Invitations depend on suitable roles becoming available, and certified candidates can apply to matching openings. Certification establishes neither a start date nor allocated working hours. Keep other options active and do not plan spending around a certificate alone. Wait for a specific offer and terms you understand before treating an opportunity as an agreed source of income.
- Can someone in France apply?
- Check the particular opening and request confirmation if permitted residence is unclear. The cited pages do not establish a universal country list for every role. Website access alone does not confirm eligibility. Interview language, jurisdiction country and the ability to receive payments also need clarification. Never enter a false residence to get through a form: it does not resolve the underlying eligibility, documentation or payment requirements.
- What is micro1’s hourly rate?
- The pages used in this guide do not establish one universal rate. Documentation distinguishes hourly projects from task-based projects. Your offer should specify the amount and calculation basis. Ask what is billable, how revisions are treated and what appears on the invoice. An advertised gross rate does not establish available hours or the amount left after your own obligations, receiving charges or currency conversion where applicable.
- When are micro1 experts paid?
- The Payroll policy generally places payment around the 20th for work from the 1st to the 15th, and around the following 5th for the second half, checked in November. This concerns funds reaching the payroll platform, not necessarily your bank. Weekends, US bank holidays and the stated timing variations can move those dates. Check the onward withdrawal timeline that applies to your own account separately.
- Why are my hours not showing in Deel?
- micro1 explains that Hubstaff hours do not transfer automatically into Deel. Data is exported at cycle-end to determine pay, and total hours appear on the invoice. Task-based projects use completions rather than tracked hours for payment. Compare the correct period with your records before reporting a discrepancy to the lead. A missing live display is not by itself evidence that hours have been rejected or that payment will not happen.
- Is the interview recorded?
- Yes. The guide describes recorded interviews so human recruiters can review results. The candidate notice covers audio, video, transcripts, scores and recorded screen sharing for technical assessments. It also permits uses of de-identified information for micro1’s proprietary models. Read this specific notice and close private documents before the assessment. The general marketing website policy is not a substitute for understanding what applies when you participate as a candidate.
- Can a project end after I join?
- Yes. The FAQ and agreement explainer say projects depend on the client having work and that needs can change. micro1 says it tries to find a similar opportunity if one exists, which is not guaranteed continuity. Read the termination clauses of your agreement and keep records of completed work. A recurring payroll calendar does not establish permanent assignments, fixed future hours or the protections associated with an employee relationship.
- What should I check before accepting an offer?
- Confirm the contracting entity, permitted residence, rate, calculation basis, billable time and payment route. Read confidentiality and work-product obligations. Ask who handles quality questions, time discrepancies and payroll problems. Keep written answers and do not pay an intermediary promising guaranteed selection. A verbal assurance is no substitute for terms you understand, and an attractive opportunity is not a reason to ignore unanswered questions about the work or your obligations.
