Online Work in Cameroon: Sites That Pay via Orange Money and MoMo
Which online work in Cameroon sites actually accept Cameroonians, and which ones pay out to Orange Money or MTN MoMo? This comparison covers access, thresholds, maximum payout times and real taxes, platform by platform. It makes no promises about earnings.

Are you looking for online work in Cameroon? You probably want to know which sites accept Cameroonian residents and which ones pay to Orange Money or MTN MoMo. This comparison answers exactly that question: access, payment methods, thresholds, maximum payout times and real taxes. If you want a broader overview of methods (freelancing, selling, content creation…), read our companion guide to making money online in Cameroon with legitimate methods.

What these figures show: more than half of Cameroonians are not yet online. Even so, the online population already exceeds 12 million people. Online work is therefore a real option, as long as you pick platforms that accept the country and pay to a method you already use.
Is online work in Cameroon a realistic option?
Yes, as extra income, but not as a guaranteed salary. Legitimate platforms pay for tasks that are completed and approved. The amount of available work varies by day, by country and by profile. A site that promises you a fixed income with no effort is not an employer. It is a red flag.
Cameroon's real advantage is mobile money. According to the GSMA report on mobile money, Sub-Saharan Africa accounts for 66% of the global value of transactions, or about USD 1.4 trillion over the year studied. In Cameroon, the two major services are Orange Money and MTN MoMo. Getting paid to one of them means you don't need to open a bank account or a foreign wallet.
The problem is that some international platforms publish PayPal, bank transfer or other wallets, while others restrict access by country. So check two things before you sign up: first, whether the country is accepted, and second, how you will be paid.

What this chart shows: more than two-thirds of Microtaches workers live in Africa, which is over 30,000 people. Cameroon has more than 3,200 of them. That puts it just behind Ivory Coast (nearly 3,500) and far behind Madagascar (more than 14,000). These figures describe the size of the community. They say nothing about anyone's earnings.

Microtaches: micro-tasks and mobile money
Microtaches is a French-language micro-task platform open worldwide. You accept a task, follow the instructions shown and submit your answer. Your answer is reviewed before it is credited. Earnings are counted in Ops. You can withdraw them to Orange Money or MTN MoMo from 25,000 Ops, or by bank transfer from the minimum withdrawal amount.
Clickworker and Microworkers: check the payment options
Clickworker publishes its payment options: PayPal, SEPA, Payoneer or a US bank, with no mobile money. Earnings from its UHRS tasks become payable after a 39-day review. Microworkers states in its FAQ that you can sign up from any country. Check on the site which payout methods work from Cameroon.
Prolific: Cameroon is not accepted
Prolific is often recommended because it requires researchers to pay a minimum hourly rate. However, Cameroon is not on its list of accepted countries. Don't try to work around this rule: follow Prolific's published country list.
Surveys and freelancing: options that need an intermediary
TGM Panel and Triaba run panels in several countries (France, Morocco, Madagascar…). We found no published confirmation for Cameroon, so check their websites before signing up. For freelance work, check each freelance platform's payout page and your Payoneer eligibility before accepting a project.
What kind of online job fits your profile?
Each type of work requires a different skill level and time commitment. Here are the main categories, with what you should know before starting from Cameroon.
- Micro-tasks: short tasks completed by following precise instructions. The amount of available work varies. To understand how it works, see our comparison of micro-job platforms.
- Paid surveys: simple, but often restricted by country and profile. Surveys also end early when you don't match the target audience. Our guide to legitimate survey panels and their payout thresholds explains the conditions.
- Data annotation: labeling images, text or audio to train AI. The big platforms often require qualification tests and good English. Some, like DataAnnotation, don't publish their list of countries. See our guide to data annotation jobs and who is hiring.
- Search result evaluation: published job listings usually require several years of residence in the target country (5 years in the listings we reviewed) and passing an exam.
- Freelancing: writing, translation, graphic design or development. It requires building a reputation and checking how you receive payments before accepting work.
Illustrative example: Joël is a student in Douala. He has free time between classes but no bank account. Micro-tasks with mobile money payouts fit his situation better than a platform that only pays to a US bank.
Illustrative example: Mireille is a seamstress in Bafoussam who speaks good English and wants longer assignments. She could try annotation platforms. She should know that they select people through tests and don't guarantee regular projects.
Online jobs that pay via MTN Mobile Money or Orange Money: how do you receive your earnings?
On Microtaches, you request a withdrawal from the Withdrawals page in your account. You must complete identity verification (KYC) before your first withdrawal. The name on your ID must match the name on the Orange Money or MTN MoMo account that receives the money. This point matters: the receiving account should be in the same name.
Orange Money and MTN MoMo are available from 25,000 Ops. If you prefer a bank transfer, you can request one from the minimum withdrawal of 5,000 Ops per request. However, a reserve of 10,000 Ops cannot be withdrawn. Your balance must therefore reach at least 15,000 Ops for a first bank transfer. To compare with other countries in the region, read our guide to online work paid via Orange Money, country by country.

How much is the MTN MoMo tax on transfers in Cameroon?
The MTN MoMo Cameroon rate card lists a tax on mobile money transfers of 0.2% of the amount + 4 CFA francs. The extra 4 CFA francs come from the finance law adopted in late 2024. Here is what this tax comes to on three amounts, based on the exact conversion of €21, €63 and €105.
| FCFA | |
|---|---|
| 13,775 FCFA (€21) | 32 FCFA |
| 41,325 FCFA (€63) | 87 FCFA |
| 68,875 FCFA (€105) | 142 FCFA |
What this chart shows: the tax stays low, under 150 FCFA even on nearly 69,000 FCFA. The fixed 4 FCFA weighs slightly more on small amounts, but the difference is minimal.
How much are your Ops worth in CFA francs?
At withdrawal, 1 Ops is worth €0.0042. The Central African CFA franc (XAF) has a fixed peg to the euro (€1 = 655.957 FCFA). As a result, the conversion doesn't depend on a rate that changes every day. That is a real advantage compared with other currencies.
| FCFA | |
|---|---|
| 5,000 Ops (€21) | 13,775 FCFA |
| 10,000 Ops (€42) | 27,550 FCFA |
| 15,000 Ops (€63) | 41,325 FCFA |
| 50,000 Ops (€210) | 137,751 FCFA |
What this chart shows: the conversion is strictly proportional. Thanks to the fixed peg, you know in advance what a euro balance is worth in FCFA. These amounts are conversion values, not earnings. They say nothing about how long it takes to collect those Ops.
The shop (gift cards, products) gives your Ops more value: €0.0082 per Ops, or about 1.95 times the withdrawal value. It is useful if one of the cards offered is something you will actually use. Orders are delivered within up to 2 weeks. You'll find the details in our guide to converting your Ops into euros or gift cards.

How can you avoid online job scams in Cameroon?
Cyber fraud is a real problem in Cameroon. According to a report covering 2025 (ANTIC, ministerial statements), it caused more than 1.027 billion FCFA in losses. The same report counted 471 cases of fraud or phishing and 59 fraudulent financial platforms identified, 40 of which were shut down. These figures cover cyber fraud in general, not only fake job offers.
One documented scheme is the "task scam" described by Cybermalveillance.gouv.fr. Someone offers you small tasks via WhatsApp or Telegram and shows you fake earnings. Then they ask you to pay money to keep going or to unlock your earnings. In nearby Ivory Coast, a fake offer demanded 2,600 FCFA in "application fees" in the name of the Agence Emploi Jeunes, which publicly denied it.
- Good sign:Free sign-up, with no application or "activation" fee
- Good sign:Thresholds, timeframes and payout methods clearly published before you sign up
- Good sign:Identity verification requested before a withdrawal or a shop order, on the official site itself
- Good sign:No promise of fixed income: the platform says task availability varies
- Warning sign:First contact via WhatsApp or Telegram with a "flexible job offer"
- Warning sign:A deposit required to "unlock" your earnings or access better-paid tasks
- Warning sign:Guaranteed returns, or referrals required to earn
- Warning sign:A request for your Orange Money or MTN MoMo PIN
- Warning sign:Pressure to pay fast ("limited offer," "last day")
If you see even one red flag, stop right away. No legitimate site will ever ask for your mobile money PIN. Our guide to legit work from home and the checklist to never pay upfront covers more real cases.
