Mobile money comparison: Orange Money, MTN MoMo, Wave, MVola
A useful mobile money comparison starts with a wallet you can actually use in your country, then checks cash withdrawal fees and account ownership. Compare Orange Money, MTN MoMo, Wave, and MVola using documented country coverage, public tariffs, and Microtaches payout rules.

A useful mobile money comparison answers a practical question: which wallet lets you receive and use your payout with the fewest surprises? The best choice is not necessarily the most recognizable name. It is the service available for your country and account, with clear charges and a correctly identified wallet. A mobile wallet is simply a money account you access through your phone.
Receiving a payment, sending money to someone, and withdrawing cash are separate transactions. Their fees are not interchangeable. Below, you will find documented country coverage, public cash withdrawal tariffs, and the checks that matter before a Microtaches withdrawal. Start with availability, then compare the cost of accessing your money—not a blanket ranking that ignores where you live.
- Access to the four methods
- 25,000 Ops
- Orange Money, MTN MoMo, Wave, and MVola.
- Withdrawal value of 25,000 Ops
- €105
- Before possible fees and local conversion; the reserve still applies.
- Nonwithdrawable reserve
- 10,000 Ops
- This portion of your balance stays in your account.
- Maximum payout time
- 3 weeks
- After your withdrawal request is validated.
These figures do not mean you can withdraw an entire balance of 25,000 Ops. Access to a payment method, the required reserve, and the amount requested are different rules. Likewise, €105 is an Ops conversion value, not an estimate of the cash you will receive locally. Our guide to converting Ops into euros and gift cards explains the distinction before you choose a destination.
Which countries support these mobile money services?
Country coverage has three layers. A telecom operator may operate in a country. Its mobile money service may be documented there. A particular payout route may then be available for your Microtaches account. Those layers do not establish the same thing. The country matrix below shows official service documentation; it is not a list of guaranteed Microtaches withdrawal destinations.
The official MTN MoMo country selector is a starting point, not conclusive evidence of current operations. Some listed countries still need confirmation of account activation, cash withdrawals, and local pricing. The L status preserves that uncertainty. Local pages directly document MoMo in Cameroon and Côte d’Ivoire, but you should still check the payout option offered for your account.

Orange Developer documentation includes an online payment service. It establishes documented Orange Money presence, but does not by itself prove that a wallet can receive a Microtaches withdrawal. Check the wallet’s country and the method actually offered in your account before submitting anything. What are MTN MoMo cash withdrawal fees in Cameroon?
The official MTN Cameroon tariff table, checked in November, sets fees by withdrawal amount. It uses Central African CFA francs, or XAF; F means francs here. Withdrawals from 100 to 4,166 XAF cost 54 F. From 4,167 to 333,332 XAF, the table lists 1% plus taxes of 0.2% of the amount and 4 F. From 333,333 to 500,000 XAF, it lists 4,004 F.
Why the middle-band fee is more than 1%
In the official MTN Cameroon MoMo tariff table, the middle-band components add up to 1.2% of the withdrawal amount + 4 F. Calculated from that table, a 10,000 XAF cash withdrawal costs 124 F; a 50,000 XAF withdrawal costs 604 F. These examples calculate the cost of withdrawing cash in Cameroon. They are not Microtaches payment-receipt fees, and they are not a universal MTN tariff.
| XAF | |
|---|---|
| Withdraw 10,000 XAF | 124 F |
| Withdraw 50,000 XAF | 604 F |
| Withdraw 100,000 XAF | 1,204 F |
Do not apply Cameroon’s schedule to Côte d’Ivoire, Benin, or Ghana. A usable official numerical cash withdrawal schedule for MTN Côte d’Ivoire still needs checking on the official site. In Cameroon, review the total displayed before confirming and retain the transaction details. For local payout considerations, see our guide to online work in Cameroon.
Are Wave cash withdrawals really free?
The official Wave consumer website advertises free cash withdrawals and a 1% sending fee, checked in November. That distinction matters: the percentage applies to sending money, not taking cash out. If you receive funds in your wallet and then withdraw them, you should not automatically deduct that sending percentage from the withdrawal. Read each transaction’s terms separately.
| % | |
|---|---|
| Cash deposit | Free |
| Cash withdrawal | Free |
| Sending money | 1% |
Agent access matters alongside the advertised price. Before traveling, check that your chosen location is open and can handle your amount. Wave terms entries for Cameroon, DR Congo, Guinea, and Malawi do not establish a public launch. Uganda also has published terms, but current operations require reconfirmation with Wave. Free advertised withdrawals are useful only where you can actually use the service.
How do Orange Money cash withdrawal fees vary by country?
Orange Money does not have one withdrawal tariff for every market. In Cameroon, Orange Money’s official pricing communication advertises 1% for withdrawals and 0% for transfers, checked in November. It references withdrawals through #150# and Max it. These are local advertised terms, not rates you can extend to Senegal, Madagascar, or another country.
Comparing Orange with MTN Cameroon requires checking more than the headline percentage. MTN explicitly lists additional taxes. Whether Orange’s advertised percentage includes all taxes is not established here. Calling both services exactly the same price would therefore be misleading. Compare the final amount shown for your withdrawal and channel, including any disclosed charges, rather than assuming the promotional percentage is the complete cost.
In Senegal, Orange Senegal’s new official announcement describes changes to limits and fees in November. Current cash withdrawal charges need checking on the official site; an older fee cap is no longer a reliable current reference. Orange Madagascar’s numerical withdrawal pricing also needs checking before you conclude it is cheaper than MVola.
| Tariff market | Public withdrawal fee | Taxes | Check before using | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Wave | Consumer website | Advertised free | Local detail to check | Local terms |
| MTN MoMo | Cameroon | Amount-based schedule | Explicitly listed | Applicable band |
| Orange Money | Cameroon | Advertised 1% | Tax inclusion unconfirmed | Confirmed total |
| MVola | Madagascar | Fixed fee by band | Tax-inclusive Ar | Current schedule |
Public cash withdrawal terms, checked in November. Sources: Wave — consumer website; MTN Cameroon — MoMo Tariffs; Orange Money Cameroon — pricing communication; MVola — tariff table dated February 17, 2025. Tax-inclusive means all taxes included. Not a like-for-like comparison: countries, currencies, amount bands, and tax treatment differ. None of these entries represents the full cost of a Microtaches payout.
What does a MVola cash withdrawal cost in Madagascar?
MVola publishes fixed fees by amount band for Cash Point withdrawals—cash withdrawals at the relevant service locations. The accessible official MVola tariff table is dated February 17, 2025, and expresses charges in ariary with taxes included. A newer schedule is not confirmed in the available information, so check the tariff applicable when you make your withdrawal.
| Ar, tax-inclusive | |
|---|---|
| 1,001–5,000 Ar | 150 Ar |
| 5,001–10,000 Ar | 275 Ar |
| 10,001–20,000 Ar | 550 Ar |
| 25,001–50,000 Ar | 1,300 Ar |
| 50,001–100,000 Ar | 1,900 Ar |
| 100,001–250,000 Ar | 3,400 Ar |
Compare the fixed fee with the amount withdrawn
Under MVola’s official tariff table dated February 17, 2025, withdrawing 10,000 Ar costs 275 Ar, equivalent to 2.75% of the amount withdrawn. At 50,000 Ar, the schedule’s 1,300 Ar fee represents 2.6%. These percentages are calculations from MVola’s fixed fees, not percentage tariffs advertised by MVola. They show why the exact withdrawal amount—and the band it falls into—matters more than looking at a fixed charge alone.
Also check account-opening eligibility for your phone number. MVola’s official website advertises free MVola Fô account opening for numbers beginning with 032, 033, 034, 037, and 038. It should therefore not be described as necessarily restricted to a single operator. Our MVola withdrawal guide for Madagascar covers the questions to resolve before receiving funds and accessing cash.
Does your mobile money account need to be in your name?
For Microtaches, the receiving account must be in your own name, matching the name on your verified identity document. This applies to Orange Money, MTN MoMo, Wave, and MVola. A relative’s wallet is not a substitute. This is a Microtaches rule; it should not be presented as a universal requirement imposed by every platform that pays through mobile money.
Wallet identification and Microtaches identity verification are separate checks. MTN Uganda’s official MoMo page requires a national identity document or another permitted document. Wave Uganda’s terms also require valid identification. For your country, confirm accepted documents and the registered account name with the local provider. Do not assume another country’s registration requirements apply, or that verifying one account automatically verifies the other.
Microtaches identity verification, called KYC, becomes accessible at a balance of 1,000 Ops. KYC means checking who the account holder is. You need an identity document and proof of address; processing takes no more than 7 business days. Verification is mandatory before your first withdrawal or first shop order. Prepare ahead with our guide to the identity verification process.
- Good sign:The receiving wallet is identified in your own name.
- Good sign:You have checked the country, number with country code, and account limits.
- Good sign:Your Microtaches identity verification is complete before the first withdrawal.
- Good sign:You verify the credit in your own account, not through someone else's screenshot.
- Warning sign:Someone requests a deposit or account top-up to unlock your earnings.
- Warning sign:An agent or supposed support representative asks for your PIN or SMS code.
- Warning sign:Someone asks for upfront fees or work outside the platform through WhatsApp or Telegram.
How do mobile money withdrawals work on Microtaches?
Orange Money, MTN MoMo, Wave, and MVola are offered on Microtaches starting at 25,000 Ops. The general minimum withdrawal is 5,000 Ops, with a nonwithdrawable reserve of 10,000 Ops. A first withdrawal of 5,000 Ops therefore requires a balance of 15,000 Ops. That general rule does not replace the higher access threshold for the mobile money methods.
Use the withdrawal form to check the method available and the amount permitted for your situation. Your displayed balance is not necessarily fully withdrawable. Payment can take up to 3 weeks after the request is validated, so an approved destination does not mean immediate cash. If you have an urgent expense, do not plan around a withdrawal that is still pending.

In Workers receiving earnings through Orange Money, MTN MoMo, Wave, or MVola, mobile money is often the most convenient option.

Methods shown on the Withdrawals page of your Microtaches account. Countries listed are examples where the service is common.
- 1Complete your profileProfile
Registration is free, and the team approves each account. The profile questionnaire is required; completing it gives a 10 Ops bonus. Check your balance and displayed conditions without assuming when you will reach a withdrawal threshold.
- 2Prepare your identificationIdentity
When identity verification becomes accessible, prepare your identity document and proof of address. Check the wallet’s registered name too. Microtaches verification does not automatically correct a receiving account registered under someone else’s name.
- 3Check the destinationAccount
Confirm the wallet’s country, phone number with country code, and active status. Choose only a method offered for your account. If the destination or wallet is unclear, ask for confirmation before submitting.
- 4Review the amount and termsAmount
Respect the method’s threshold, withdrawal minimum, and reserve. Read the available fee and conversion details. Also account for the public cash withdrawal fee you may need once the wallet is credited.
- 5Wait for the credit and verify itTracking
Keep your request reference and follow its status. After payment, verify the transaction in your own wallet before withdrawing cash. Keep your PIN private. Someone else’s screenshot cannot replace checking your actual account.
Microtaches does not offer Moov Money/Flooz, Airtel Money, Free Money/Mixx by Yas, or T-Money. Their presence in your country does not change that. Do not enter one service’s number into a form intended for another wallet. Our guide to Airtel Money and receiving online earnings explains the difference between a local service and an accepted payout method.
How can you compare exchange rates and the cash you receive?
Follow the full payment path: requested Ops value, payout amount, possible currency conversion, wallet credit, and cash withdrawal. Under Microtaches rules, 1 Ops is worth €0.0042 at withdrawal. That makes 5,000 Ops worth €21 and 10,000 Ops worth €42. These are exact Ops conversions, not promised net amounts in CFA francs or ariary.
Check the applicable exchange rate and any payment fees in the displayed terms. Without that information, the Ops balance alone cannot establish the final local amount. Free cash withdrawals may be attractive, but they do not determine the best overall option if conversion or another payment step changes the amount credited. Compare what each stage actually discloses.
- Note the requested Ops amount and its euro withdrawal value.
- Check the stated local amount, exchange terms, and any displayed fees.
- Verify the amount actually credited to your wallet.
- Find the cash withdrawal band for the amount you want.
- Compare cash received and practical access—not just the advertised fee.
Do not compare a nominal XAF fee in Cameroon directly with an ariary fee in Madagascar. The country, currency, and withdrawal amount differ. Also check the bands before splitting funds into repeated small withdrawals: fixed charges can recur. Before traveling, ask whether the agent can handle your amount, then personally check the transaction and cash received. A low published fee is only part of that decision.
Where does Microtaches fit alongside other online work?
Microtaches can complement other online activities rather than automatically replace a job or regular payment. After free registration and account approval, you complete your profile and access short tasks with displayed instructions. Responses are checked manually or automatically before Ops are credited. A careless response can be rejected, so choosing a convenient wallet does not remove the need to follow the instructions.
The number of tasks varies by day, country, and profile. You cannot reliably predict when you will reach the mobile money threshold. Accept a task only when you can meet its instructions and deadline. Consider your available time, the required quality, and the payout timeline alongside the wallet choice, rather than treating a supported method as a schedule for receiving money.
If mobile money does not suit your situation, Microtaches also offers bank transfers from the general withdrawal minimum. Transfers outside Europe have a fixed fee of 800 Ops, equivalent to €3.36. PayPal, Skrill, and Neteller are available starting at 25,000 Ops, with the receiving account in your name. Our Skrill versus Neteller guide for Africa helps you examine those alternatives.
Gift cards serve a different purpose: using shop value instead of receiving cash. Their conversion is €0.0082 per Ops, but they are not cash withdrawals. Choose according to how you intend to use the value. Also remember Microtaches’ internal withdrawal cap of €2,500 per year, per worker. Selecting a different wallet does not remove the reserve, identification requirements, or other account rules.
Which mobile money payout method should you choose?
Choose the service you can use correctly today: an identified personal wallet, an accepted destination, understandable charges, and practical access to cash. A less convenient option can cost more in travel or time even when its advertised withdrawal fee is low. If an essential condition remains unclear, wait for confirmation instead of treating a country listing as enough evidence.
No service wins in every country. Wave stands out for advertised free cash withdrawals; MTN Cameroon publishes a tariff with explicit taxes; MVola provides ariary amount bands. Orange Money needs assessment using current local terms. For Microtaches, availability for your account and matching identity come before the advertised price.
- Four mobile methods offered starting at 25,000 Ops.
- Wave clearly distinguishes free withdrawals from paid sending.
- MTN Cameroon publishes its tariff components.
- MVola provides Cash Point fees by band in tax-inclusive ariary.
- Documented presence does not guarantee an active Microtaches payout route.
- Some markets and tariffs still require confirmation.
- Cash withdrawal fees do not describe the full payment cost.
- The reserve, identity checks, and payout timeline require planning.
FAQ: your questions about wallets and cash withdrawals
- Which countries support MTN Mobile Money?
- MTN MoMo’s official selector lists countries including Benin, Cameroon, Côte d’Ivoire, Ghana, Nigeria, and Uganda. A selector listing does not always confirm current operations. Local pages directly document the service in Cameroon, Côte d’Ivoire, and Uganda. Next, check whether your particular destination can receive the payout offered for your Microtaches account.
- What are MTN MoMo withdrawal fees, and do they include taxes?
- MTN Cameroon’s official MoMo tariff table lists a 1% fee plus taxes of 0.2% of the amount and 4 F for withdrawals from 4,167 to 333,332 XAF. Together, that is 1.2% + 4 F within this band. Other bands have fixed amounts. Do not apply Cameroon’s tariff to other MTN countries.
- Are Wave withdrawals free, and what does the 1% fee cover?
- Wave’s consumer website advertises free cash withdrawals. Its advertised 1% fee applies to sending money, not withdrawing cash. That commercial offer does not establish that currency conversion, the initial payout, or every payment partner is fee-free. Check the terms for receiving the payment separately from the cash withdrawal conditions in your country.
- Which countries are documented for Wave, including Uganda?
- Wave’s official Google Play listing names Burkina Faso, Côte d’Ivoire, The Gambia, Mali, Niger, Senegal, and Sierra Leone. Wave also publishes Uganda-specific terms, but current operations there require reconfirmation. Terms entries for other countries do not automatically prove a public launch. Check local service activity before relying on a wallet for your payout.
- What does MVola charge, and can I use another mobile operator?
- MVola’s official table dated February 17, 2025, lists a 275 Ar Cash Point fee for withdrawals from 5,001 to 10,000 Ar. Check the current schedule before withdrawing. MVola also advertises free MVola Fô account opening for numbers beginning with 032, 033, 034, 037, and 038. Confirm your number’s eligibility and the associated conditions.
- Why should I recheck Orange Money fees in Senegal?
- Orange Senegal announced changes to limits and fees in November. Older withdrawal amounts should therefore not be treated as confirmed current tariffs. Read the new announcement and check the total presented for your transaction. Orange Cameroon’s advertised rate is not a substitute: it applies to a different market with its own local terms.
- Must my wallet be in my name to receive a Microtaches payout?
- Yes. Microtaches requires the receiving account to match the name on your verified identity document. This applies to all four offered mobile methods. Microtaches KYC is mandatory before the first withdrawal, but it does not replace wallet identification. Do not use a relative’s account to work around a registration or verification problem.
- How many Ops do I need for a mobile money withdrawal?
- Orange Money, MTN MoMo, Wave, and MVola are offered on Microtaches starting at 25,000 Ops. The general withdrawal minimum is 5,000 Ops, and the nonwithdrawable reserve is 10,000 Ops. These are separate rules, so check the permitted amount in your account. Payment can take up to 3 weeks after the withdrawal request is validated.
- Does Microtaches offer Moov, Airtel, Free/Mixx, or T-Money?
- No. Microtaches does not offer Moov Money/Flooz, Airtel Money, Free Money/Mixx by Yas, or T-Money. Their presence in your country does not make them compatible with a form intended for Orange Money, MTN MoMo, Wave, or MVola. If you only have an unsupported wallet, consider another available payout method in your own name.
- Can I use Wave without a smartphone, and how do I verify a payment?
- Wave’s Sierra Leone terms describe a QR card, with a scannable code, for accessing an account at an agent without a smartphone. Do not generalize that option to every country. Verify a payment through your own account and transaction record. A received screenshot or isolated SMS is not enough. Never share your PIN.
