Online Work in Ivory Coast: Reliable Sites and Mobile Money Payouts

Are you looking for online work in Ivory Coast, whether you live in Abidjan, Bouaké, Yamoussoukro or San-Pédro? You're not alone. Many Ivorians are interested in online work. But between genuine platforms, sites that don't accept the country, and scams spread over WhatsApp, it's easy to lose time, or even money. This guide gives you verified facts, honest limits and a simple method to get started.

Is online work in Ivory Coast a real opportunity?

Yes, but think of it as extra income, not a salary. Two things need to be in place: a decent internet connection and a way to receive money from abroad. On both counts, Ivory Coast is in a better position than several of its neighbors, as the figures below show.

What these figures show: Ivory Coast is the third-largest country in the Microtaches community, behind Madagascar (more than 14,000 workers) and France (more than 10,000). A little over four in ten Ivorians are online. And the fixed peg of the CFA franc is a genuine advantage: an amount in euros always converts at the same rate, with no unpleasant exchange-rate surprises.

The other big asset is mobile money. According to the GSMA report published on March 24 (covering the previous year), there are 2.3 billion registered mobile money accounts worldwide, and Sub-Saharan Africa alone accounts for 66% of the global transaction value, about USD 1.4 trillion. Receiving money on your phone is an everyday habit in Ivory Coast.

What this chart shows: Ivory Coast ranks second in this group of countries, behind Senegal. In practice, getting online is easier in Abidjan than in some rural areas. If your network is unstable, work at times when it's reliable: an interrupted task can expire. For a wider view of the region, see our guide to online work in French-speaking Africa.

What kind of online jobs can you do from Abidjan or elsewhere in Ivory Coast?

"Online work" covers very different activities. Some require real expertise; others are open to people without a degree. Here are the main types of work you'll find across the industry in general:

  • Micro-tasks: short, small tasks completed by following precise instructions, then checked before they are paid. To understand how they work, read our article Micro-tasks: definition, examples and how you get paid.
  • Data annotation: sorting images or labeling text and audio to train artificial intelligence tools.
  • Paid surveys: giving your opinion on products or services, provided the panels accept Ivorian residents.
  • Result evaluation and testing: judging how relevant an answer is, or testing a website or an app.
  • Freelancing: writing, translation, graphic design, virtual assistance or development, with clients found online. It can pay more, but it takes skills and time to build a client base.

Here's an illustrative example. Koffi, a student in Bouaké, has an hour or two free in the evening. He can't commit to long freelance projects. Micro-tasks suit him better: he accepts one when he's available, follows the instructions shown and submits his answer. He keeps in mind that the number of available tasks changes from day to day.

Another illustrative case: Awa, a dressmaker in Yopougon, writes French very well. She can start with micro-tasks and, over time, offer proofreading as a freelancer. The two approaches aren't mutually exclusive: the first helps you find your bearings, while the second requires you to make yourself known to clients.

Which legit online work sites accept people in Ivory Coast?

This is where people waste the most time: many well-known platforms don't accept Ivorian residents, or can't pay them. Before signing up anywhere, always check two things: is the country accepted, and is there a payment method you can actually use?

Microtaches: open to Ivory Coast, paid by mobile money

Microtaches is a French-language micro-task platform open worldwide, to every nationality. Sign-up is free, but each account is reviewed by the team, so approval isn't instant. Earnings are counted in Ops, and withdrawals via Orange Money, MTN MoMo and Wave are available from 25,000 Ops. The limits are real: task availability varies by day, country and profile, and no income is guaranteed.

Freecash, Prolific, Mercor: what you should know

Freecash: check its current payment methods and country list. Nigeria, for example, appears in its PayPal country list, so check whether Ivory Coast appears on it before you put in any time. Our detailed Freecash review covers the details. Prolific excludes Nigeria, for instance: check its list of eligible countries on its site. Mercor, which offers contract projects, accepts Morocco and Senegal for payment (via Stripe or Wise), for example: check on its site whether Ivory Coast is listed before applying.

What this table shows: for an Ivorian resident, the payment question matters just as much as sign-up. A platform that accepts you but can only pay you through a service unavailable in your country is useless to you. Also note that platform rules change: always double-check before you dive in.

How do you get paid by mobile money in Ivory Coast?

Four mobile money services are listed in our sources for Ivory Coast: Orange Money, MTN MoMo, Moov Money and Wave, which arrived in 2021. All of them appear among the institutions tracked by the BCEAO, the central bank of the West African Economic and Monetary Union (WAEMU). For your online work, the real question is simple: which service can the platform pay into?

What this table shows: three of the four major services are offered by Microtaches. If you only use Moov Money, it isn't offered; you can open an account with one of the other three or use a bank transfer instead. According to Wave's website, deposits and withdrawals are free and transfers cost 1%. For Orange Money and MTN MoMo, the fees for cashing out at an agent are those in the provider's own fee schedule.

One point people often overlook: the name on your mobile money account must match the name on your Microtaches account and your ID. A withdrawal to a relative's number will be rejected. To learn more, read our guide Online work paid via Orange Money, country by country; if you have family in Senegal, our article Online work in Senegal: getting paid via Wave or Orange Money explains the situation there.

How much are your Ops worth in CFA francs?

On Microtaches, earnings are counted in Ops. One Ops is worth €0.0042 when withdrawn and €0.0082 in the shop (gift cards, products). The shop therefore values your Ops about 1.95 times better than a withdrawal. Thanks to the fixed peg of 655.957 CFA francs per euro, described by the Banque de France, the conversion to CFA francs is always the same.

Value of Ops at the withdrawal rate, in CFA francsMicrotaches calculation based on the withdrawal rate of €0.0042 per Ops and the fixed peg of €1 = 655.957 CFA francs.
Value of Ops at the withdrawal rate, in CFA francs

10,000 Ops27,550 FCFA
15,000 Ops41,325 FCFA
50,000 Ops137,751 FCFA

What this chart shows: 5,000 Ops equal €21, or 13,775 CFA francs, and 50,000 Ops equal €210, or 137,751 CFA francs. These are conversion values, not amounts paid out: you also need to account for the non-withdrawable reserve of 10,000 Ops, the threshold for each withdrawal method, and any fees your provider charges to cash out.

In the shop, the same number of Ops is worth almost twice as much: 5,000 Ops are worth €41 and 10,000 Ops €82. If you were planning to buy a gift card anyway, that's the better deal. Our guide Converting your Ops into euros and gift cards compares both options in detail.

How do you start online work in Ivory Coast with Microtaches?

The basic process has several steps, and each step has its own timeline. Knowing them in advance saves you unnecessary worry.

From sign-up to your first withdrawalMaximum timeframes stated by Microtaches; they may be shorter.
  1. 1
    Create your free accountFree

Sign up with your real first and last name, exactly as they appear on your ID. Each account is reviewed by the team, so approval isn't instant.

  2. 2
    Complete your profile

A completed profile earns you a 10 Ops bonus.

  3. 3
Do your first tasks60 min max

Accept a task, follow the instructions shown and submit your answer. You have 60 minutes maximum per task and can have no more than 3 tasks in progress. You can drop a task with no penalty during the first 10 minutes; a task that expires without an answer costs 20 Ops.

  4. 4
    Wait for validation

Every task is checked before it is credited. A careful answer that follows the instructions is your best chance of being approved.

  5. 5
Verify your identityUp to 7 business days

Once your balance reaches 1,000 Ops, submit your ID and a proof of address. This step is required before your first withdrawal and your first shop order.

  6. 6
Request your withdrawalUp to 3 weeks

From the Withdrawals page in your account, choose your payment method. Orange Money, MTN MoMo and Wave are available from 25,000 Ops; bank transfer is available from the 5,000 Ops minimum, above the 10,000 Ops reserve.

The two steps that require the most patience are identity verification and the payout itself. Our article on the KYC process and account validation explains which documents to prepare so you aren't rejected. And to pass quality control from your very first tasks, read our tips on manual validation of micro-tasks.

Which Microtaches payout methods are available in Ivory Coast?

The table below lists the official withdrawal methods and their conditions. Keep three Microtaches-specific rules in mind: a minimum of 5,000 Ops per request, a non-withdrawable reserve of 10,000 Ops, and an internal cap of €2,500 per year. That cap is a Microtaches rule, not a law: our article on the €2,500 annual cap explains why it exists. For a bank transfer to Ivory Coast, which is outside Europe, a flat fee of 800 Ops applies.

Withdrawal methods on Microtaches

Your Ops can be withdrawn to a bank account, a mobile money account or an online wallet. Bank transfer is available from the usual minimum; MVola, Orange Money, Wave, MTN MoMo, PayPal, Skrill and Neteller are available from 25,000 Ops; Revolut and Crypto are coming soon. Moov Money is not offered: if it's your only account, use Orange Money, MTN MoMo, Wave or a bank transfer instead.

What online job scams are going around in Ivory Coast?

Demand for jobs is high, and scammers know it. In January 2025, the Agence Emploi Jeunes (the national youth employment agency) denied a fake job offer that used its name and asked for 2,600 CFA francs in "application fees." The small amount is deliberate: it seems harmless, but multiplied across many victims it adds up to a lot for the fraudsters, and it can open the door to further demands.

The other common trap is the task scam. In October, the French government's cybermalveillance.gouv.fr website warned about this scheme: someone contacts you on WhatsApp or Telegram with small, easy tasks, then asks you to pay to "keep going" or to "unlock your earnings." The money you send never comes back.

Legit site or scam? The telltale signsGolden rule: you never pay to work.
  • Good sign:Sign-up is free, with no application fee or "starter kit"
  • Good sign:Withdrawal terms (minimum, timeframes, fees) are published before you sign up
  • Good sign:The site verifies your identity in your own name before paying you
  • Good sign:The site promises no guaranteed amount per day or per month
  • Warning sign:You're asked for "application fees," even small ones, like the 2,600 CFA francs in the fake Agence Emploi Jeunes offer
  • Warning sign:A stranger recruits you on WhatsApp or Telegram for "simple, high-paying" tasks
  • Warning sign:You're asked for a deposit to "unlock" your earnings or move up a level
  • Warning sign:The offer impersonates a government agency or a big company
  • Warning sign:You're asked for your mobile money PIN or a code received by text message

What this checklist shows: a single red flag is enough to walk away. A public agency or a legitimate platform will never ask for your PIN, or for money to hire you. When in doubt, check the offer on the official website of the organization it mentions. Our guide Legit work from home: real jobs, scams and the checklist to never pay upfront lists other schemes to watch for.

Do you have to pay taxes on online income in Ivory Coast?

Money earned online is still income. How it's taxed depends on your situation: occasional or regular activity, the amounts involved, and whether you have business status. We can't give you a specific threshold, because it depends on the Ivorian rules in force and on your personal circumstances.

The best move is to ask the Direction Générale des Impôts (DGI), Ivory Coast's tax authority, directly, or an accountant if your activity becomes regular. Keep a record of your withdrawals and your mobile money statements: they'll help you document your income if needed.

Is Microtaches a good fit for you in Ivory Coast?

You won't be alone when you sign up: the Microtaches community has more than 44,000 approved workers, over two-thirds of whom live in Africa. Madagascar, Ivory Coast, Cameroon, Senegal, Burkina Faso and Benin are all well represented.

Microtaches workers by continent

Europe≈ 26%
Asia and Oceania≈ 4%

What this chart shows: about 68% of workers live in Africa, more than 30,000 people, compared with about 26% in Europe. Microtaches offers payout methods such as Orange Money, MTN MoMo and Wave. It doesn't, however, guarantee a volume of tasks: that varies by day, country and profile.

Our verdict for Ivorian workers

Microtaches is a serious option for getting started with online work in Ivory Coast, as long as you accept real waiting times and the absence of guaranteed income.

Strengths
  • Free sign-up, open in Ivory Coast and to every nationality
  • Orange Money, MTN MoMo and Wave available from 25,000 Ops
  • Predictable conversion to CFA francs thanks to the fixed peg
  • No penalty for dropping a task during its first 10 minutes
  • Shop values Ops about 1.95 times better than withdrawals
Limitations
  • No guaranteed income: task volume varies
  • Accounts are reviewed by the team, so approval isn't instant
  • Identity verification up to 7 business days, payout up to 3 weeks
  • Non-withdrawable reserve of 10,000 Ops and internal cap of €2,500 per year
  • Moov Money not offered; 800 Ops fee for a bank transfer outside Europe

What is the most legit online work site in Ivory Coast?

Can I get paid with Orange Money in Ivory Coast through Microtaches?
Yes. Orange Money withdrawals are available from 25,000 Ops, from the Withdrawals page in your account. The account must be in your own name, matching your ID.
Does Microtaches pay via Wave in Ivory Coast?
Yes. Wave is one of the withdrawal methods offered, available from 25,000 Ops, just like Orange Money and MTN MoMo. According to Wave's website, cash withdrawals are free.
Can I withdraw my earnings to Moov Money?
No. Moov Money is not offered by Microtaches. You can use Orange Money, MTN MoMo, Wave or a bank transfer in your own name.

Up to 3 weeks after your request is approved. You also need to allow for identity verification, which takes up to 7 business days and must be completed before your first withdrawal.
How much can I make per day working online in Ivory Coast?

Does Freecash work in Ivory Coast?
It depends on its current terms, so check before signing up. Nigeria, for example, appears in its PayPal country list; make sure Ivory Coast is listed before investing your time.
Are tasks offered on WhatsApp a scam?
Most likely, yes. The task scam starts with small, easy tasks, then demands payments to continue or to unlock your earnings. Never pay, and never share your mobile money PIN.
Do I need to declare online income in Ivory Coast?
Yes, in principle: online income is still income. The rules depend on your situation; check with the Direction Générale des Impôts (DGI), Ivory Coast's tax authority, and keep your withdrawal statements.
