Wave Senegal: how to receive your online earnings
Wave Senegal can receive earnings when your work platform supports it. Learn what to check, how limits work and how Microtaches withdrawals fit in.

Wave Senegal is an electronic money wallet: it helps you receive and use money, but does not create an income by itself. Getting paid for online work involves two separate services: the platform that owes you money and the wallet that receives it. Installing an app does not establish your eligibility for a particular opportunity or prove that its payments can reach your account.
This guide follows the practical journey from opening a wallet to withdrawing cash, including a Microtaches example without an earnings promise. If you still need to choose an activity, start with our guide to online work in Senegal with Wave payments. Here the focus is narrower: where the money sits at each stage, who controls that stage, and what you should check before submitting a withdrawal request.

Wave Senegal: can you receive online earnings?
Yes, but the important question is the payment route. A work platform must offer Wave for your country, accept your profile, and let you provide the required recipient details. Wave being familiar in Senegal does not replace any of those checks. Before investing time in a service, locate its withdrawal screen, read its conditions, and establish exactly whose name must appear as the recipient.
The official Wave terms for Senegal identify the service provider as WAVE DIGITAL FINANCE SA, a company registered in Senegal. They distinguish the electronic wallet from a bank account. Your Wave phone number is therefore not an IBAN: these are different kinds of payment details. A platform requesting an IBAN cannot automatically use a mobile number in its place simply because both accounts belong to the same person.
Keep earnings and collection separate as well. A balance marked pending on a work platform is not a credit in your Wave wallet, and a wallet credit is not cash in your hand. That distinction prevents you from committing to an expense on the strength of a screenshot alone. Record the requested amount, its status and the amount actually received, while keeping login credentials out of any record you share with someone else.
How do you open an account and install the Wave app?
Start from the official Wave website and follow its app-store links. That gives you an identifiable starting point, although you should still review requested permissions and protect your phone. Do not install an app supplied privately by a recruiter who says it is needed to release your earnings. If you are unsure about a download link, navigate back to the official website yourself instead of continuing through the message.
Article 3.1 of the terms requires a valid identity document and a face photo for authentication. The published definition of an identity document specifies a national identity card for Senegalese nationals and a passport for foreign nationals. Article 5 also describes an agent's involvement, either before or after account opening, to verify identity. Downloading the app therefore does not mean all identity checks have been completed or that every account feature is already available.
Prepare your documents, check the spelling of your name, and ask Wave whether your wallet is sufficiently identified for the payment you intend to receive. Do not substitute a relative's details to get around an account-opening difficulty. If a document causes a problem, ask about the appropriate procedure rather than altering a copy. To understand how this differs from checks on the work platform, see our guide to identity verification and account approval on Microtaches.
What Wave Senegal fees should you budget for?
Wave's homepage advertises free deposits and cash withdrawals, money transfers at 1%, and bill payments without fees, checked in November. Those statements describe the services advertised by Wave, not the complete pricing of a withdrawal from any work platform. You should not infer that receiving online earnings necessarily costs 1%, or that every stage of the payment journey must be free simply because cash withdrawal is advertised as free.
| Official indication | Check before payment | |
|---|---|---|
| Deposit | Advertised as free | Exact transaction type |
| Cash withdrawal | Advertised as free | Amount and agent availability |
| Money transfer | Advertised at 1% | Final summary and any additional charges |
| Bills | Advertised without fees | Selected biller and operation |
| Balance and top-ups | Limits published in the app | Your profile and remaining headroom |

For a meaningful comparison, ask for a breakdown showing the starting amount, platform charges, any currency-conversion costs and the expected amount received. A charge for sending a payment is different from a cash-withdrawal charge. If the summary does not make a tax or extra charge clear, resolve that question before confirming. The marketing rate on a homepage is not enough to settle the all-in cost of a different transaction with several parties involved.
The following is only an illustration of the advertised percentage: 1% of CFA 10,000 is CFA 100, while 1% of CFA 100,000 is CFA 1,000. These are not quotations for receiving a Microtaches payout. The chart explains how a percentage scales with the transfer amount; the actual debit and recipient amount must come from the summary for your specific transaction, rather than from this teaching example.
| CFA 10,000 | CFA 100 |
|---|---|
| CFA 50,000 | CFA 500 |
| CFA 100,000 | CFA 1,000 |
Where can you check wallet limits and receiving capacity?
The current Senegal terms refer to regulatory financial limits and state that limits are published in the Wave app. They describe transaction and daily limits as well as cumulative monthly top-ups. An older numerical ceiling should not be treated as a guarantee for your wallet. Before arranging payment, check the maximum balance, transaction limits and period-based limits that actually apply to your own profile, rather than assuming one number answers all three questions.
Balance headroom has a straightforward calculation: your applicable balance limit minus the balance already held. If your personal limit is P and your existing balance is S, that headroom is P − S. However, this calculation alone does not authorise a payment: an individual-transaction limit or cumulative monthly limit may still matter. If the wallet seems to have enough space but cannot receive the payment, ask Wave which restriction is relevant.
The terms also bring money held in the Wave Vault within the applicable limits. Do not assume that moving funds internally into the Vault creates a separate allowance. Nor should you open several accounts to avoid a limit or an identity check. Instead, note the amount you expect to receive, review the information in your app, and ask support what compliant steps are needed for that particular payment to reach your existing wallet.
What should you check for payment from a foreign platform?
Article 6.13 of Wave's terms says international transfers originating outside UEMOA can only be received by a sufficiently identified account. UEMOA is the West African Economic and Monetary Union. That identification requirement is not a list of supported work platforms: it does not prove that a particular website has an operational payment route to Wave Senegal. Confirm the destination country, currency, required recipient details and named beneficiary with the paying platform before relying on that route.
Do not confuse eligibility for international wallet payments with the ability to receive any bank transfer. If the platform does not list Wave, ask what its actual options are rather than entering a phone number into a bank-account field. Our comparison of mobile money wallets can help structure those questions, but it should not be read as a claim that every listed provider works in every country or with every platform.
A precise support question is more useful than simply asking whether a platform pays people in Senegal. Try: ‘My receiving account is a Wave wallet in Senegal in my own name. Is this method available to my profile, what is the threshold, and what amount would I receive?’ Keep the answer together with the payment summary. If an intermediary offers to rent you an account to bypass an incompatibility, do not use that arrangement. The beneficiary name for a Microtaches withdrawal must match your verified identity. Also confirm with Wave that your account can receive the intended international or merchant payment.
How do you turn Ops into a Wave payment?
Microtaches registration is free and restricted to adults under the law of their country of residence. The team reviews and approves each account, and the profile questionnaire must be completed. An account opened by a minor is refused at identity verification. These Microtaches rules are separate from Wave's own conditions: being able to hold a wallet does not automatically make someone eligible to work through Microtaches or pass its account checks.
Microtaches offers short micro-tasks with instructions displayed inside each task. Availability varies by day, country and profile; there is no guaranteed amount of work. An accepted task must be completed within 60 minutes, with no more than three accepted at once. An accepted task left unanswered when its time expires incurs a 20-Ops penalty. Some responses undergo manual checks before Ops are credited, so a submitted response should not automatically be treated as money ready for withdrawal.
- 1Approved account and completed profile
Complete Microtaches account approval without buying an account or borrowing someone else’s.
- 2Credited Ops and verified identity
KYC becomes possible from a 1,000-Ops balance; it is mandatory before the first withdrawal and takes no more than 7 business days.
- 3Wave access and reserve checked
Wave is offered from 25,000 Ops. Keep the non-withdrawable 10,000-Ops reserve and check the amount your account allows you to request.
- 4Request followed by receipt
Review your details and payment summary. Microtaches payment can take up to 3 weeks; then confirm the credit in Wave before arranging a cash withdrawal.
KYC means identity verification: the check links the account to your real identity. Do not leave this step until the day before an urgent expense. Prepare for it once your balance permits, then review the conditions in your account. The Ops calculator can help explain the values, but a conversion calculation is neither an estimate of the working time needed nor a promise that sufficient tasks will be available to reach a particular balance.

Which Microtaches withdrawal methods are offered?
The official list below describes Microtaches methods, not guaranteed provider coverage in Senegal. For Wave, check your receiving wallet and the conditions shown on your Withdrawals page. A Microtaches bank transfer requires an IBAN: ask your bank whether your account has one rather than assuming local account details are enough.
| Type | Availability | Where it is used | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Bank transfer (IBAN) | Bank | Available from the usual minimum | Bank account with an IBAN, in Europe or elsewhere (fixed fee outside Europe) |
| MVola | Mobile money | Available from 25,000 Ops | Madagascar |
| Orange Money | Mobile money | Available from 25,000 Ops | Madagascar, Ivory Coast, Senegal, Cameroon, Mali, Burkina Faso, Guinea, DR Congo… |
| Wave | Mobile money | Available from 25,000 Ops | Senegal, Ivory Coast, Mali, Burkina Faso… |
| MTN MoMo | Mobile money | Available from 25,000 Ops | Ivory Coast, Cameroon, Benin, Guinea, Congo, Ghana… |
| PayPal | Online wallet | Available from 25,000 Ops | Countries where PayPal lets you receive money |
| Skrill | Online wallet | Available from 25,000 Ops | International online wallet |
| Neteller | Online wallet | Available from 25,000 Ops | International online wallet |
| Revolut | Neobank | Coming soon (no date yet) | Coming soon |
| Crypto | Cryptocurrency | Coming soon (no date yet) | Coming soon |
Methods shown on the Withdrawals page of your Microtaches account. Countries listed are examples where the service is common.
A method appearing in this list does not guarantee that you can use the provider or access every feature in your country. Checks are necessary on both sides. Microtaches has a €2,500 annual cap; this is not a Wave wallet balance limit and should not be treated as interchangeable with a daily or monthly restriction. If anything about your withdrawal request is unclear, start with the information shown in your own account and ask for clarification before proceeding.
What are 25,000 Ops worth, and how does the reserve work?
The value of one Ops depends on how it is used: €0.0042 for withdrawal and €0.0082 in the gift-card shop. These are separate values, not two amounts that can both be cashed out to Wave. At the withdrawal value, 25,000 Ops mathematically equal €105. However, that does not mean a total balance of 25,000 Ops will produce a €105 Wave payment: the reserve and the conditions of the actual withdrawal still apply.
A non-withdrawable reserve of 10,000 Ops must remain in the account. A balance of 25,000 Ops minus that reserve leaves 15,000 Ops outside the reserve, equivalent to €63 at the withdrawal value. Treat that as an explanation of the balance, not a quotation for a payment in CFA francs. The amount you are allowed to request, any charges and the expected recipient amount must be checked on the withdrawal screen before you confirm the operation.
| Reserve | 10,000 Ops |
|---|---|
| Outside reserve | 15,000 Ops |
The general minimum withdrawal is 5,000 Ops; after allowing for the reserve, a first minimum bank withdrawal therefore needs a 15,000-Ops balance. That bank example does not remove the 25,000-Ops access threshold for Wave. For gift cards, read the Microtaches shop guide: shop orders also require KYC and are processed within two weeks at most. Choose a card only if it meets a real need, rather than treating its shop value as cash you can withdraw.
How long should you allow before collecting cash?
Microtaches payments take no more than three weeks. Identity verification, which can take up to seven business days, is a separate stage: submitting documents is not a promise of an instant payment once they are accepted. Task availability and any checks on submitted responses belong to other stages again. None of these timings establishes a guaranteed date on which you will earn a particular balance, so do not use them to calculate a promised earnings schedule.
Use three simple stages in your own notes: request submitted, payment reported by the platform, and credit visible in the Wave wallet. These are tracking labels for your records, not a claim about the exact wording used on either service's screens. If you have an urgent bill, do not commit money against a payment still in progress. First establish what is actually available to spend, and keep pending funds separate in your household budget.
After the wallet credit arrives, ask the agent whether the desired cash amount can be provided before starting the withdrawal. Check the amount in your app and count the notes before leaving. These are practical precautions, not a guarantee that cash is available at every location or at all times. A withdrawal being advertised as free does not guarantee that a particular service point is open or has the amount you need immediately available when you arrive.
How can you protect your wallet and spot a suspicious request?
Wave's terms describe the PIN as personal and secret and require you to protect account credentials. Do not give it to a recruiter, an alleged adviser, or someone promising to speed up a payment. Enter secrets yourself only through the official process. If a stranger asks you to pay them to ‘unlock’ an earnings balance, stop and verify the request with the relevant service. Treat that as a reason for caution, not as an instruction to send money first.
- Good sign:My account and recipient details match my identity.
- Good sign:I checked the threshold, reserve and my Wave limits.
- Good sign:I keep the payment reference and summary without secret codes.
- Warning sign:Someone asks for my PIN or a login code.
- Warning sign:An intermediary offers a rented account or wants to receive for me.
- Warning sign:Someone demands a private payment to speed up my withdrawal.
Article 7.3 of the Wave terms gives 200 600 as a free number to call from any number in Senegal if your phone or PIN has been stolen or compromised. Find that contact yourself in the terms or your app instead of calling a number supplied in a threatening message. If you suspect unauthorised access, prioritise securing the account and reporting what happened rather than waiting for a further payment demand or continuing a conversation with the unknown sender.
Our guide to warning signs in online work across Africa develops these precautions further. Keep screenshots private too: remove full phone numbers, identity documents and any codes before seeking advice in a public group. Providing evidence should not expose your personal data a second time. A screenshot supplied by someone else is never a substitute for checking the transaction history and available balance in your own Wave account.
Missing payment, wrong number or restricted wallet: what next?
First locate the stage where the problem sits. If the request is still being processed by the work platform, contact that platform with the date, amount and available reference. If payment is reported as sent but does not appear in Wave, request the relevant transaction information and then contact Wave. Avoid submitting contradictory requests or repeatedly changing the recipient while a complaint is being investigated; keep one clear account of the sequence of events and the details you originally supplied.
| First contact | Information to prepare | |
|---|---|---|
| Request still processing | Work platform | Date, amount, status |
| Sent but not received | Platform, then Wave | Reference and recipient details entered |
| Wrong phone number | Relevant service immediately | Number entered and reference |
| Compromised phone or PIN | Wave on 200 600 | Relevant facts, without disclosing the PIN |

Article 11 of Wave's terms provides for transaction-error complaints without a fee and asks for details including your name, contact information, the beneficiary, the transfer date and the reason for the complaint. The same terms distinguish an error attributable to Wave from other situations. Do not assume every typing mistake automatically qualifies for a refund. Report an incorrect number promptly and ask about the procedure, without telling the recipient that reversal is guaranteed before the service has reviewed the case.
For personal data, article 17 of the terms describes collection and circumstances for sharing, including service providers needed to operate the service and legal requests. It states a ten-year retention period and describes rights to object, correct and delete data. Those rights do not mean every record can necessarily be erased immediately regardless of applicable obligations. Send a specific request to official support rather than forwarding identity documents to a contact found in a social group or an unsolicited message.
Wave can be a convenient receiving wallet in Senegal, but it replaces neither a genuine earning activity nor checks on both services.
- Wave advertises free deposits and cash withdrawals
- Receipt can be verified directly in your wallet
- Microtaches offers Wave access from 25,000 Ops
- Compatibility must be checked for each platform
- Identity requirements, reserve and limits still apply
- Microtaches payment is not instant and can take three weeks
Frequently asked questions about Wave and online earnings
- Does Wave Senegal pay you to use its app?
- Wave is discussed here as a receiving wallet, not as a paid activity. Earning money requires a separate activity and a service that accepts your profile and pays what you earn. Installing Wave gives you no entitlement to income. Check the work platform's conditions before starting, and do not pay an intermediary for a supposed guarantee of earnings or for access to someone else's account.
- Which documents do you need to open a Wave account?
- The Senegal terms require a valid identity document and a face photo. They define the document as a national identity card for Senegalese nationals or a passport for foreign nationals. An agent is involved in identity verification before or after opening. Ask Wave how to complete the process for your particular circumstances if your document is not accepted or your wallet is not sufficiently identified for the planned payment.
- What is my current Wave account limit?
- The current terms direct users to limits published in the Wave app. Check the limits for your profile rather than relying on an older table found elsewhere. Review maximum balance, individual-transaction restrictions and period-based cumulative limits separately. Existing funds reduce your balance headroom, and having enough headroom does not necessarily remove other restrictions. Ask Wave to clarify the relevant limit before payment if anything remains uncertain.
- Does receiving earnings always cost 1%?
- No. Wave's advertised 1% rate concerns the transfers presented on its homepage, not a universal quotation for receiving earnings. A platform payment can involve additional stages and conditions. Check the starting amount, any charges, conversion and the expected credit to your wallet. Advertised free deposits and cash withdrawals do not by themselves establish the total cost of a payment route involving another service.
- When does Wave become available on Microtaches?
- Wave is offered from 25,000 Ops. You must also respect the non-withdrawable 10,000-Ops reserve and complete KYC before your first withdrawal. Access to a payment method does not mean your entire balance can be cashed out. Check the authorised request amount and payment summary in your account, then verify the recipient details and receiving limits on the Wave side before confirming the request.
- How much money are 25,000 Ops worth?
- At the Microtaches withdrawal value of €0.0042 per Ops, 25,000 Ops equal €105 by simple multiplication. That is not a guaranteed recipient amount: the 10,000-Ops reserve must remain in the account, and the withdrawal summary governs your request. The shop value of €0.0082 per Ops applies to gift cards, not a Wave payment. Do not use the shop conversion to estimate cash you can receive.
- Is a Microtaches payment to Wave instant?
- Microtaches payment can take up to three weeks. KYC is a separate stage, processed within seven business days at most and mandatory before the first withdrawal. Those timings do not guarantee an earnings date because task availability varies and some responses undergo manual checks. Do not commit to an urgent expense against a balance still being processed; wait until the actual credit appears in your wallet.
- Can I receive an international payment through Wave?
- Wave's terms require a sufficiently identified account for transfers originating outside UEMOA. This does not guarantee that your foreign work platform has a payment route to Wave Senegal. Confirm that possibility with the payer, then check receiving conditions with Wave. Do not replace an IBAN with your phone number in a bank-account form or rent an intermediary's account to get around a payment incompatibility.
- What if my phone or PIN is compromised?
- Wave's terms say to call 200 600, free from any number in Senegal. Find that contact yourself in the app or official terms, not through a suspicious message. Report the situation and ask what security steps are appropriate. Do not disclose your PIN to a recruiter or someone promising to recover your earnings, and do not send a private upfront payment in exchange for supposed help.
- What if a reported payment does not appear in Wave?
- First establish whether the platform reports a request still being processed or a payment actually sent. Ask for the reference, amount and recipient details used, then contact Wave if sending is confirmed but no credit appears. The terms allow transaction-error complaints without a fee, but do not promise an automatic refund in every situation. Keep useful evidence and hide documents and secret codes if seeking advice publicly.
