Mystery shopper Belgium: companies, pay and scams

Mystery shopper belgium: if that is what you are looking for, you probably want practical answers rather than promises. Which companies can you approach, what remains after expenses, and how do you recognise a fake offer? Start with a written assignment from an identifiable organisation, not a message offering automatic income.

This guide separates Belgian iShopFor Ipsos conditions from Multi-Value’s rules and identifies the questions to ask before your first visit. It also distinguishes fees, reimbursement, time spent and administrative obligations. Our general guide to mystery shopping explains the wider activity; this article focuses on Belgium without inventing an average salary.

Mystery shopper Belgium: what does the work involve?

A mystery shopper acts as an ordinary customer to document a specific experience. On its Belgian homepage, Ipsos describes observations such as staff friendliness, product knowledge and cleanliness. The expected result is detailed feedback, not advertising or a predetermined public recommendation.

An assignment includes understanding the scenario, carrying out the interaction and completing the questionnaire. A short visit can therefore take considerably more time than the minutes spent on the premises. Read the questions before accepting: they show what you need to remember and which evidence to keep, rather than leaving you to improvise once inside the shop.

A useful report separates observation from judgement. Saying that an employee asked about your needs describes an event; calling the employee wonderful does not explain what happened. This is writing advice, not a real assignment questionnaire. Stay faithful to events and never add a step merely because you think it would make your report more convincing.

Do not confuse this activity with product testing or home-based micro-tasks. Paid product testing has a different purpose. Microtaches offers short micro-tasks with instructions displayed in each task; this article does not claim that it provides mystery-shopping visits. Choose an activity for the way it actually works, not because its label sounds appealing.

Which mystery-shopping companies should you contact in Belgium?

Two clearly documented starting points are iShopFor Ipsos Belgium and Multi-Value. Ipsos has a Belgian registration page. Multi-Value describes operating in the Benelux on its official mystery-research page. That presence does not establish that a suitable assignment is available today in Brussels, Liège, Namur or your own municipality.

Begin on the official website and follow its registration link. A familiar company name in a message does not authenticate the sender: identities can be copied. Be wary of long directories mixing countries, intermediaries and services with no established Belgian access. Two accounts whose rules you understand are more useful than a collection of registrations with unclear conditions.

Compare profile requirements, requested languages, location, expenses and payment timing separately. Registration should not be treated as automatic admission to every study. Multi-Value expressly says that assignments matching a profile cannot be guaranteed. The sensible approach is to evaluate a concrete proposal rather than turning a company’s national presence into a promise of work near your home.

How does iShopFor Ipsos work in Belgium?

The French-language Belgian page asks for applicants to be over 18, have a smartphone with internet access and hold a Belgian bank account. It also stresses reliability, attention to detail and writing ability. If you have just turned 18, ask the service to confirm eligibility: the official wording should not be turned into a personal guarantee that your application will be accepted.

The Belgian Ipsos FAQ explains that applications are checked against assignment criteria before allocation. Instructions are provided, along with a short questionnaire to confirm understanding. You can prepare your profile, but should not carry out a visit merely because an opportunity interests you: wait for allocation and the relevant instructions.

Its FAQ mentions in-person visits, telephone calls and online assignments. These are possible formats, not a promise of a permanent selection in every category. It also states that there is no minimum assignment commitment. Flexibility does not mean unlimited availability: selection depends on projects and profiles, and an individual assignment can have its own restrictions.

Bank details are needed for payment. The FAQ says they can be entered after initial registration, but payment cannot take place until they have been added. Use your official account profile rather than responding to an unexpected request through a messaging service. If a problem arises during an assignment, contact support before changing the scenario on your own initiative.

How do you join Multi-Value and obtain assignments?

The official Multi-Value shopper page describes registration, applications through an assignment board, a briefing and a report. An allocated assignment comes with a briefing, usually by telephone or online, and a questionnaire. The agreed fee is paid after the report is approved. Registering or visiting a business without an allocated assignment is therefore not enough.

Its FAQ distinguishes payment for the questionnaire from possible purchase reimbursement. It mentions generally small test purchases of up to €20, but that figure is neither a visit fee nor a guaranteed reimbursement for your assignment. Only the actual offer establishes which purchase is authorised and what will be covered.

The shopper page states that reports must arrive within 24 hours of the assignment. The FAQ describes automatic bank payment in the first week of the month following the visit. Keep these stages separate: meeting a reporting deadline does not mean money immediately reaches your account. Check any additional briefing conditions and keep the approval notification you receive.

Multi-Value says it requests an IBAN and BIC to pay accounts in the euro area or Switzerland. Confirm age requirements, the minimum payout and country-specific details during registration. Do not copy Ipsos eligibility requirements into your understanding of Multi-Value: each company has its own rules.

Mystery shopper Belgium: how much can you actually earn?

Do not budget for a Belgian monthly salary based on online mystery-shopping averages. Ipsos says fees and reimbursements are shown before acceptance; Multi-Value says compensation is explained before a visit. Read any advertised amount alongside its conditions. What matters is what you retain and the total time committed, not just the headline payment.

Consider a wholly hypothetical example, not a company rate: a €15 fee, a €10 purchase reimbursed in full, and €4 of unreimbursed travel. You receive €25 but have spent €14. That leaves €11 before any tax or social contributions. Purchase reimbursement restores the money you spent; it does not turn the entire €25 received into profit.

Hypothetical cash received versus amount retainedCalculation: teaching example, not company rates. €15 fee + €10 reimbursement − €10 purchase − €4 travel = €11.
Hypothetical cash received versus amount retained
€
Fee€15
Reimbursement€10
Total received€25
Before tax and charges€11

Now assume 15 minutes of preparation, 30 minutes of return travel, 20 minutes on site and 25 minutes writing the report: 90 minutes altogether. The €11 then works out at approximately €7.33 per hour before obligations. That is neither a forecast nor a contractual hourly wage. A questionnaire revision or second journey would lower the calculated figure further.

Use the same formula when comparing offers: fee minus unreimbursed costs, divided by total hours. Track the amount you must advance as well: an attractive-looking assignment may tie up money you need elsewhere. Never make a substantial purchase because someone pressures you. First obtain the covered amount, required evidence and confirmation that the assignment has actually been allocated to you.

How can you complete a first assignment without wasting time?

For a first attempt, choose an assignment whose steps you fully understand and whose travel requirement is manageable for you. This is practical risk management, not a company rule. Leave time afterwards as well: finishing the visit does not finish the assignment when the questionnaire and evidence still need to be submitted correctly.

Your first-visit workflow
  1. 1
    Verify the offer

Confirm the official site, location, allocation, fee and covered expenses.

  2. 2
    Read before travelling

Read the briefing and questionnaire; request written clarification of ambiguous instructions.

  3. 3
    Prepare the evidence

Identify required receipts or other evidence and confirm collection is permitted in the stated context.

  4. 4
    Carry out and describe

Follow the scenario without inventing events; record observations as soon as appropriate.

  5. 5
    Submit and follow up

Meet the specified deadline, keep confirmation, and track approval separately from payment.

If the shop is closed, the required purchase is unavailable or the questionnaire does not fit the situation, do not substitute a different assignment yourself. Contact support and describe the problem factually. Keeping evidence of your journey may be useful, but it does not guarantee payment: ask the company how that particular situation is handled.

Keep a small folder for each assignment: offer, instructions, evidence, submitted report, approval and payment. This makes it easier to answer follow-up questions without reconstructing the entire sequence. It should not become a public photo album: the information documents your work for the company. This discipline is especially useful when similar visits make times or amounts easy to confuse.

A person sorts a receipt and notes at a kitchen table, with a shopping bag and phone beside them.
Illustration: after a visit, someone calmly organises their supporting documents at home.

What reporting and payment timelines should you plan for?

Reporting deadlines and payment timelines answer different questions. Ipsos mentions answering within 12 hours after an assignment; Multi-Value states 24 hours for receiving the report. These published deadlines were checked in November. For your own visit, always read the allocated instructions and resolve any discrepancy before accepting rather than relying solely on a general guide.

Published report submission deadlinesSource: iShopFor Ipsos Belgium FAQ and Multi-Value shopper page, checked in November. These are reporting deadlines, not payment times.
Published report submission deadlines
hours
Ipsos Belgium12 hours
Multi-Value24 hours

For payment, Ipsos describes a cycle closing every two weeks for completed, approved assignments. This does not mean money is available exactly two weeks after the visit. Approval and inclusion in the payment cycle matter. Multi-Value’s FAQ states the first week of the month following the visit, while its workflow specifies that the report must be approved.

If payment appears late, check four things first: report submission, approval, correct bank details and whether the published payment period has arrived. Then contact support with the assignment reference and relevant dates. A specific message makes an actionable answer easier. Never send banking security codes or passwords to speed up a payment supposedly offered by an unverified contact.

Budget with your own safety margin rather than a promise of fast payment. Money advanced remains unavailable for other expenses until reimbursement arrives. If you cannot comfortably absorb that wait, choose another opportunity or decline. Taking fewer assignments can be sensible when expenses, family arrangements and cash flow matter more than the proposed fee.

How do you recognise a mystery-shopping scam?

The decisive warning sign is not just an attractive amount: it is the process you are told to follow to obtain it. Stop if a contact demands a transfer to unlock an earnings balance. Verify the company independently of the message you received. An authorised purchase in an official assignment is different from paying a recruiter for access to earnings.

The official BARE International evaluator FAQ warns about impersonation. It says evaluators must be registered and do not receive prepayment for their services; it highlights fraudulent checks and identifies its official email domain. This illustrates a scam mechanism, not confirmation that BARE assignments are currently available in Belgium.

Anti-scam checklist before responding
  • Good sign:I can find the offer and contact through the official website opened independently of the message.
  • Good sign:Allocation, briefing, fee and covered expenses are clearly documented.
  • Good sign:I can ask support a question without immediately accepting.
  • Warning sign:Someone demands payment to release a balance or obtain assignments.
  • Warning sign:I am asked to deposit a check and forward part of its value to someone else.
  • Warning sign:Someone requests login codes, creates artificial urgency or demands an unofficial payment.

If something feels wrong, stop the exchange and contact the company through its official website, without using the suspicious message’s link or number. Keep messages and supporting records. If money or banking information has already been sent, contact your bank and the appropriate authorities promptly. Do not send another payment to recover the first one, even if the contact claims to be correcting an error.

What Belgian status and tax questions should shoppers consider?

A company describing assignments as flexible or occasional does not settle your social-security or tax position. Ipsos describes its mystery shoppers as independent workers in its Belgian FAQ. That contractual description does not replace an assessment of your circumstances by the Belgian authorities. Do not assume that small payments, reimbursement or the word occasional automatically remove every obligation.

INASTI explains Belgium’s secondary self-employed status and states that it carries the same legal obligations as primary self-employment. It is not simply another name for a low-paid activity. Your other professional activity or replacement-income position needs to be considered. Our guide to secondary self-employment in Belgium can help you prepare questions.

Before undertaking repeated assignments, show the contract, expected fees, intended frequency and expenses to a social-insurance fund or business counter. For tax reporting, confirm the appropriate treatment with SPF Finances or a qualified professional, including before completing Tax-on-web. This is general information: it does not determine a universal tax category or establish a personal exemption.

Keep separate records for fees, reimbursements and evidenced expenses, without deciding for yourself that every reimbursement is tax-neutral. Explain your particular circumstances if you are a student, jobseeker or benefit recipient. Choosing a Belgian side-income status deserves attention before starting; a flexi-job involves a different framework from registering on a platform.

Which personal details and evidence should you share?

A profile helps establish suitability for an assignment; bank details enable payment. Those purposes do not make every request legitimate. The Belgian Ipsos FAQ describes storing bank details to pay approved assignments. Multi-Value explains requesting an IBAN and BIC for bank transfers. Use official account areas and read privacy information before entering sensitive information.

Check which details are mandatory, why they are needed and how to contact the company with questions or a deletion request. A platform’s security statement is not an absolute privacy guarantee. Choose a unique password and do not disclose authentication codes. An IBAN used to receive a transfer is not the security code used to authorise a banking transaction.

For assignment evidence, follow the briefing without collecting unnecessary additional information. A requested receipt does not authorise publishing information about people you encounter. Do not distribute questionnaires or visit details on social media. If a photography or recording instruction raises concerns, clarify its scope and authorisation before acting rather than trying to evade a restriction.

A useful report can be specific without being intrusive. Describe requested observations, avoid accusations and correct genuine memory errors honestly. If information is missing, ask support how to report that rather than inventing it. Good observation depends on accuracy and relevance, not on accumulating as much personal information as possible during a visit.

What alternatives to mystery visits make sense in Belgium?

Compare activities against your main constraint. If you cannot advance purchase money, look for an offer whose expenses suit your budget. If you cannot travel, choose something explicitly designed to be completed from home. No format is inherently best: the available opportunity, your eligibility and actual time required matter more than a general ranking.

Expected activityWhat to examine
Mystery visitObserve a scenario and submit a reportAllocation, purchase, travel and approval
App-based field assignmentsFollow the individual assignment instructionsTravel and evidence; see the BeMyEye/Roamler comparison
Product testingEvaluate under programme-specific conditionsReceiving a product does not necessarily mean cash income
MicrotachesShort micro-tasks with displayed instructionsVariable availability; separate Ops and withdrawal rules

Decision guide: formats, not earnings or local availability. Linked guides explain their own conditions.

For phone-based activities involving travel, our BeMyEye and Roamler comparison sets out the checks to make. Do not transfer one app’s conditions to Ipsos or Multi-Value. Likewise, different paid-task formats do not all use the same approval process, expense arrangements or payment structure.

Microtaches is not an employer and offers no salary, employment contract or flexi-job. Registration is free and restricted to adults under the rules of their country of residence; the team reviews every account and a profile questionnaire must be completed. Task availability varies by day, country and profile. This supplement therefore does not reserve or guarantee future income.

Our verdict: start small and measure everything

A nearby, clearly documented visit may suit an occasional supplement. Registration alone cannot establish monthly earnings.

Strengths
  • Publicly accessible Belgian Ipsos conditions
  • Multi-Value workflow and reporting deadlines explained
  • An unsuitable offer can be declined
Limitations
  • Travel and reporting time must be included
  • Some assignments require purchase advances
  • Approval and administrative obligations need planning
Best for: Careful people who can follow a scenario and check expenses before committing.

How do Microtaches Ops and withdrawals work?

These rules apply only to Microtaches, not to mystery-shopping companies. An accepted task must be completed within 60 minutes, with no more than three accepted at once. Leaving an accepted task unanswered when time expires incurs a 20-Ops penalty. Some responses are checked manually before Ops are credited, so submission and approval are different stages.

Withdrawal value is €0.0042 per Ops; the gift-card shop value is €0.0082. These are different uses, not two cash withdrawal rates. Identity verification, also called KYC, becomes available at a 1,000-Ops balance and takes at most seven business days. It is mandatory before the first withdrawal or shop order; an account opened by a minor is refused at identity verification.

The minimum withdrawal is 5,000 Ops with a non-withdrawable 10,000-Ops reserve, so a first minimum bank withdrawal requires a 15,000-Ops balance. The withdrawn 5,000 Ops are worth €21, while the reserve stays in the account. The annual withdrawal cap is €2,500: this is a Microtaches rule, not a Belgian tax-exemption threshold.

Which withdrawal methods should you check from Belgium?

This table applies only to Microtaches. Bank transfer requires an IBAN account. Also check that your chosen provider account, matching your verified identity, can receive the relevant payment type in your country; a listed method does not itself guarantee that your account is eligible.

Methods shown on the Withdrawals page of your Microtaches account. Countries listed are examples where the service is common.

Withdrawals are paid within at most three weeks; shop orders within at most two weeks. A bank transfer outside Europe carries a fixed 800-Ops fee, which should not automatically be applied to a Belgian situation. Check the withdrawal conditions and Ops calculator before deciding. None of these processing periods tells you how long earning the required balance will take.

Which companies can you contact for mystery shopping in Belgium?
iShopFor Ipsos Belgium and Multi-Value are two documented starting points. Ipsos has Belgian pages, while Multi-Value describes operating in the Benelux. Neither establishes that a suitable assignment is available in your municipality. Register through the official website, complete your profile and wait for a specific allocation before visiting. Compare the fee, covered expenses and deadlines attached to each actual offer.
Is registration with iShopFor Ipsos free?
Yes. The Belgian iShopFor Ipsos page states that registration is free. That does not mean every assignment involves no purchase advance. Fees and reimbursement amounts are shown before acceptance. Check which expenses are authorised and what evidence is required. Never confuse an approved purchase from a merchant with money someone demands to unlock an earnings balance or give you access to work.
Can you become a Belgian mystery shopper at 18?
The French-language Belgian Ipsos page asks applicants to be over 18, have a smartphone with internet access and hold a Belgian bank account. If you have just turned 18, ask for eligibility confirmation. One company’s conditions should not be applied to another. Microtaches requires legal adulthood in the country of residence, and this is checked during identity verification.
How much does a mystery visit in Belgium pay?
Check the fee for the actual Belgian assignment rather than relying on an online average. Amounts depend on the individual offer, and purchase reimbursement is not profit. Subtract unreimbursed expenses from the fee, then divide by the total time committed. Include preparation, travel, the visit and questionnaire completion. An estimate before tax and social contributions remains different from the income ultimately available to spend.
When does Ipsos pay for approved assignments?
The Belgian Ipsos FAQ describes a payment cycle closing every two weeks for completed, approved assignments. This is not a guarantee that money arrives exactly two weeks after a visit. The report needs review and your bank details must be entered. Check approval and the payment statement before contacting support, and include the assignment reference so the team can identify the transaction.
When must you submit a Multi-Value report?
Multi-Value’s shopper page says reports must be received within 24 hours of the assignment. Its FAQ describes payment in the first week of the month after the visit, and its workflow requires report approval. Submission and payment are therefore separate stages. Keep the briefing, submission confirmation and supporting evidence, and check the particular conditions attached to your allocated assignment.
Are there mystery-shopping assignments you can do from home?
The Belgian Ipsos FAQ mentions calls and online assignments alongside in-person visits. Their existence does not guarantee an opportunity matching your profile today. Check the format, scenario and eligibility requirements before applying. Microtaches is a separate option for home-based supplementary activity through short micro-tasks, but this article does not claim that the platform offers any particular mystery-shopping assignment.
Do you need to declare mystery-shopping income?
Do not assume that a small amount or occasional assignment is automatically exempt. Confirm your position with SPF Finances and discuss social-security questions with a social-insurance fund or INASTI. Keep fees, reimbursements and expenses in separate records. A platform’s contractual description does not replace that assessment. This general guide does not determine your individual tax category or establish an exemption.
What should you do if asked to pay to unlock earnings?
Stop and verify the contact through the official website, without using the suspicious message’s link. Paying to release an account balance is different from an authorised purchase in a briefing. Keep messages and evidence. If you have already transferred money or shared banking information, promptly contact your bank and the appropriate authorities rather than sending another payment to recover the first.
Does Microtaches offer Belgian mystery-shopping employment?
No. Microtaches is not an employer and offers no job, salary, employment contract or flexi-job. It provides short micro-tasks with instructions displayed in each task. Availability varies by day, country and profile. Ops, identity verification and withdrawals follow rules that are separate from the fees paid by mystery-shopping companies. Registration must not be interpreted as an offer of regular paid employment.
